Softball League

The WaterStone Men's Softball team first began in 2003 and participates in an all-church league at Belleview Community Church located in westLakewood. Games are played on Saturday mornings. The league begins in mid-April and games start in May and continue into August. Players under 18 MUST have parent permission. The league fees are split between the players. WaterStone has been consistently one of the top 3 teams out of 15 in the league. End of season league tournaments, home run derbys, barbeques and evangelistic city-wide team tournaments round out the year.

The softball season begins in April and finishes in August. The player fees are relatively low.

Mark's Bio

A 16 inch, hard as a rock, “Clincher” softball can come at you pretty fast when you’re only 40 feet away. Did I mention you don’t wear a glove? That’s right. You catch it barehanded. If you catch it wrong you can jam or break a finger. Lisa, my wife, calls it a “Kitty Ball” because after a few thousand hits the ball gets as soft as a kitten’s tummy.
My softball career began in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois when I was 17 years old. I’ve been playing ball ever since.
A few years later during a short college fall break, I would be handed a little booklet by Timothy Lobo. This young enthusiastic hippie-looking fellow asked me if I had an open mind. He told me God loved me and had a wonderful plan for my life.
Well, I took the booklet home that evening, opened the dust covered Catholic Bible and began comparing the texts. Could this kind of relationship really exist? Could I fellow ship with a living and loving God? I would soon find out because twenty minutes later I prayed the sinner’s prayer and was born anew. Wow!
Softball continued during my remaining college years as well as heavy involvement in Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship, a parachurch organization. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed basketball, flag football; golf and softball while a member of the Body of Christ.
The great thing about our Church League is the on field encouragement, prayer and fair play during friendly competition. The amazing thing about WaterStone team sports is the off field fellowship, prayer and encouragement we have because of our Lord. We’ve shared life’s struggles and blessings and have challenged each other to make a difference in our personal spheres of influence. We have also made new friends and become better brothers in Christ. WaterStone Community Church has been involved in the local community sports culture for over 10 years. Come join us and swing for the fences.
