Waterstone Preschool - FAQ's

What should I send to school with my child?

Please pack the following items each day: a lunch and a separate snack that does not need to be refrigerated or microwaved, a change of clothes (including socks), 2 diapers (as needed), appropriate clothing for playing outdoors, and a sippy cup or water bottle. Please be sure to label everything clearly with your child's name.

How do I check-in my child in each morning?

Children must be signed in to and out of their classrooms each school day. The sign-in sheets are located on the counter or table outside of each classroom. We will not release a child to anyone other than the parent/guardian or authorized person listed on the Emergency Contact Information form.

How do I access the building?

Each family receives one security access card at the beginning of the school year. If your child will be regularly picked up by someone other than their parents (i.e., nanny, grandparents, etc), please contact Anne Yost to request a security access card for them. Each additional card costs $10.

The security cards allow you to enter through the west doors, by the main office, from 9am-2pm, Monday - Friday. Should you forget your card or lose it, please check-in at the front office and they will open the door for you. so that the lost card can be deactivated and a new card issued. Each replacement card costs $10.

School Calendar

Waterstone Preschool follows the Jefferson County school calendar very closely. Generally, our classes start one week after Jefferson County at the beginning of the year and end two weeks prior the Jefferson County in the spring. We will closely follow the Jefferson County school calendar with regard to days off for holidays and fall, winter and spring breaks.

Inclement Weather

In the event that Jefferson County Schools are closed due to inclement weather, Waterstone Preschool will also be closed. We will notify parents of any school closures via email. No refunds or credits will be made for snow closures and we will not have makeup days at the end of the school year.

When and where do I pay my tuition?

Tuition is due on the 5th of each month. Tuition is prorated and is the same amount for every month, regardless of the number of days school is in session that month. There are no refunds of tuition if your child misses a day due to illness or vacation, or if the program is forced to close due to inclement weather.

Payment is considered late if received after the 10th of the month. A $10 late fee will be collected on amounts that are past due. Tuition can be dropped off in the box located behind the Preschool Counter at the west entrance of the building. 

What is your health policy?

Please do not bring your child to school if he/she has any of the following:

  • Signs of infection
  • Runny nose that is not clear
  • Contagious cough
  • Unexplained rash
  • Fever, vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours
  • Illness requiring an antibiotic that has not been administered long enough to render the illness no longer contagious.

How is discipline handled?

We believe that establishing boundaries for behavior result in more fun and more learning for everyone. Our teachers use positive reinforcement as well as redirection to focus on the action rather than the child in order to build self-esteem and preserve a healthy self-concept. The word discipline comes from the same root as the word disciple and means, "to teach". Therefore, our discipline strategies focus on:

  • Teaching children responsible behavior
  • Providing opportunities for children to self-correct
  • Ensuring safety
  • Providing an environment conducive to learning
