Humanity rarely chooses its family of origin or the baggage attached to it, yet Jesus Christ deliberately selected His lineage, including Rahab, an outcast whose story is recorded in both Joshua and the genealogy in Matthew. When two spies entered Jericho, Rahab protected them and declared her trust in God's past miracles at the Red Sea as well as victories over Amorite kings Sihon and Og. Her choice to secure protection through a scarlet cord directly mirrors the imagery of Passover, bringing her into the ancestral line leading directly to King David and the Messiah to prove that divine grace meets people in their current state and welcomes them into a new family.
